Spring break

Spring break followed our week of traveling through Vienna down to Venice. For our spring break, we started by spending an extra day in Venice and taking advantage of the nice weather and going to Murano. Murano is an island about ten minutes away from Venice and is known for their glass blowing. There, we saw how the glass is molded and different techniques they have used over the ages. This island had a great view of Venice and other islands around, so we shopped around a bit and sat on the water and just relaxed… since that’s what spring break is for!
The next day, we got on a train headed towards Florence. Florence was different because it was oriented around art. Michael Angelo and well known artists had come to this city to study art and made art there that still stands today. To be able to see these pieces first hand was amazing. We went on a walking tour and saw a different view of the city as well as went to the Boboli Gardens which was beautiful!
Next stop was Rome! I knew about the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain, but I wasn’t sure about the history of each of these things and wanted to know more. My favorite thing we did in Rome was when we went on tour that took us into the Colosseum and the ruins close by. On this tour, we had an amazing guide as well as amazing people on the tour with us! I had a great time learning about what the Colosseum did and how it effected life in Rome, the ruins were hard for me to picture because it is so worn down and the bare skeleton of what it once was. Overall, Rome was amazing!
Lastly, we got on a flight and headed to Barcelona. This was probably my favorite stop of the trip because we finally had a beach to relax at! We stayed at an amazing hostel and were able to meet a ton of amazing people. One day, we went on a walking tour through Barcelona’s Old Town. This walking tour showed us how the city is divided and some important buildings. One afternoon, we went to Park Guell and walked around the the gardens and buildings. The rest of our time was spent on the beach relaxing and enjoying the sun.
Overall, spring break was an amazing time and I’m so glad I was able to check off some more cities off my bucket list!
